Thank you for wanting to perform at the 4th Annual Redwood Coast Bellydance Festival!

bar

We welcome performers of all genres of the Middle Eastern Dance spectrum, and hope you will find an enthusiastic, appreciative audience for your presentation. Our festival is especially troupe-friendly, and as long as there is room in our schedule we're fine with multiple performances by groups, a "split" performance, or solos / group appearances on the stage. Also, we work hard to ensure that your preferred performance day / time is respected, since we know how far many of our participants to travel to join us!

Download printable Performer Application here: pdf or doc

Performance Lengths:
Short Solo (less than 5 minutes)
Solo (8 minutes)
Duet (8 minutes)
Troupe (12 minutes)

Stage Details:
The stage is 30' wide x 16' deep. It's about 2' high, and there are stairs on both sides toward the rear of the stage. You can enter from either side of the stage. The dressing room is rather far away in another part of the community center, but it's very nice and spacious.

Music / Performance Notes:
Family friendly show.
Please check in 1 hour before your performance time, and be ready in case schedule is a little behind or ahead.
Have music on CD (only thing on disk, in a case, clearly marked) or mp3 player (only thing in playlist) all clearly labeled with your name.
Yes, we do ask for an admission from performers. It is small (just $4.00), and goes to help make the door price affordable to everyone. Our door price is much lower than most festivals. We like you to have a nice, big audience!
Thank you for your time, artistry, and energy.

NADIRA, www.nadira.com

Nadira, Photo by Jackie DonnellyNadira has become one of the most passionate, elegant and dynamic Middle Eastern performers in the U.S. Having graced many audiences throughout the U.S., Canada and abroad, her dance is graceful, seamless and multi-faceted.

Titles include: 2007 Belly Dancer USA, 2006 Belly Dancer of the Year, 2006 Sisterhood of the Dance, 2005 Double Crown Belly Dance Performing Artist, 2005 Emerald Rain Champion, 2004 Entertainer of the Year

Nadira is featured in IAMED’s “Bellydance-O-Rama 2” DVD, filmed in Hollywood as well as the new performance DVD “By Dancers for Dancers," Volume II and the upcoming Volume IV. Nadira has been a featured performer on Persian television and in 2007 toured Turkey, performing and teaching in Istanbul and Antalya.

One can see how much Nadira truly respects, enjoys and understands Middle Eastern music in her dance. Her ability to capture the crowd with her skilled grace and playfulness has earned her the respect of the local Persian and Arabic communities. She has the ability to intrigue the audience, yet keeps them at ease with her playfulness. Nadira is an outstanding entertainer, a sought after performer and instructor.

“Nadira is the most beautifully graceful dancer I have ever seen! Her stage presence is enough to take your breath away! Her unique ability to combine technique and style, on top of layering isolations is absolutely amazing. She is unforgettably timeless in this dance community!” Rachel George –Oregon and San Diego performer and instructor

HEATHER STANTS, www.urbantribaldance.com, http://urbantribaldance.tribe.net

Heather, Photo by Dale LangdonHeather Stants is a lifelong artist and dancer with a degree in photography and fine arts. Her explorations in tribal bellydance began over eleven years ago when she became the assistant director of Read My Hips* (readmyhips.com) in Chicago, Illinois. In 1999 Heather moved to San Diego, California and launched the southern california tribal movement through her classes and the formation of Urban Tribal Dance Company.

Heather Stants is widely respected as one of the first and most influential innovators of the tribal fusion style. Heather's diverse movement and arts background feeds her creativity and her groundbreaking approach to choreography. Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for it's contemporary approach to belly dance, a pared down costume emphasizing body movements over ornamentation, athleticism and the use of the dance form as a means of personal expression and interpretation. Their creativity has twice earned them the title of "Troupe of the Year" in Zaghareet! Magazine's Golden Belly Awards. In addition to teaching several weekly classes in San Diego since 1999, Heather Stants and Urban Tribal Dance Company have been touring extensively since 2004 sharing their love of modern tribal bellydance with dancers in the U.S. and abroad.

She is very interested in the thoughtful fusion of diverse styles of dance, and the power of dance as a vehicle of expression and personal interpretation of music for an audience. Shoshanna is a dedicated improvisational dancer who values any opportunity to perform to live music. She strives to express the joy of dancing and the emotional quality of the music. As an instructor, she works to balance artistic and personal interpretation of the music with excellent technical skills and to instill a passion for this beautiful dance form. Shoshanna earned the title of Belly Dancer of the Year 2004 and appears on IAMED's 4th Awards of Bellydance DVD, the performance DVD By Dancers for Dancers vol. II and the upcoming vol IV.

Event Sponsorship...
Redwood Coast Belly Dance Festival is a fun event for the whole family to enjoy featuring a full weekend of Middle Eastern Dance performances, workshops, and lots of shopping! Many local and out-of-town guest dancers come together to celebrate their love of dance. This festival is the largest annual event produced by Shoshanna and Mosaic Productions, a program of local non-profit Ink People Center for the Arts. Our mission is to produce fabulous Middle Eastern music and dance events for our local community to enjoy.

The festival helps us raise the funds needed to produce other events throughout the year, and to offer very inexpensive or free cultural lectures and workshops in music and dance when we bring in guest artists for concerts and events. This coming year we hope to offer local schools free presentations for their assemblies or classrooms.

Now more than ever it is important to seek ways to bridge cultures and we believe that fostering connections between cultures through music and dance is a wonderful way to do so!
