Heather Stants is a lifelong artist and dancer with a degree in photography and fine arts. Her explorations in tribal bellydance began over eleven years ago when she became the assistant director of Read My Hips* (readmyhips.com) in Chicago, Illinois. In 1999 Heather moved to San Diego, California and launched the southern california tribal movement through her classes and the formation of Urban Tribal Dance Company. Heather Stants is widely respected as one of the first and most influential innovators of the tribal fusion style. Heather's diverse movement and arts background feeds her creativity and her groundbreaking approach to choreography. Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for it's contemporary approach to belly dance, a pared down costume emphasizing body movements over ornamentation, athleticism and the use of the dance form as a means of personal expression and interpretation. Their creativity has twice earned them the title of "Troupe of the Year" in Zaghareet! Magazine's Golden Belly Awards. In addition to teaching several weekly classes in San Diego since 1999, Heather Stants and Urban Tribal Dance Company have been touring extensively since 2004 sharing their love of modern tribal bellydance with dancers in the U.S. and abroad.
Shoshanna is from Arcata where she keeps busy as dance faculty at Humboldt State University, teaching local classes in Arcata & Eureka, directing two troupes: The Ya Habibi Dance Company and the Raks Amar Dancers, and produces a variety of events and concerts through her own business and through Mosaic Productions, which she began in 2005. Shoshanna has danced throughout her life in Ballet, Jazz, and Modern Dance, but has found her art in the dances styles of the Middle East. She is very interested in the thoughtful fusion of diverse styles of dance, and the power of dance as a vehicle of expression and personal interpretation of music for an audience. Shoshanna is a dedicated improvisational dancer who values any opportunity to perform to live music. She strives to express the joy of dancing and the emotional quality of the music. As an instructor, she works to balance artistic and personal interpretation of the music with excellent technical skills and to instill a passion for this beautiful dance form. Shoshanna earned the title of Belly Dancer of the Year 2004 and appears on IAMED's 4th Awards of Bellydance DVD, the performance DVD By Dancers for Dancers vol. II (along with Nadira) and the upcoming volume 3 (along with Crystal & Nadira).
